My Cornhill diary 07 13.06.2009

Continued from Ixworth Primary School

Saturday 13 June 2009 - It was a lovely day, but turned out to be very disappointing. Anoushka joined me to attend the auction at Lacy Scott & Knight included Lot 400, 14:56 The Queen, Cathedral & Maundy Full Moon, all proceeds to go to St Nicholas Hospice. The asking price was £7-10K. The painting struggled to secure £750. It was a most humiliating experience and I would never have allowed a private sale for such a low figure. On the positive side, St Nicholas will receive £750. However, this painting should have gone to a public place and raised at least a few thousand quid for the hospice. I can only say that those who attended the dinner at the cathedral last Saturday did not value my painting nor the cause. It is a shame and a lesson for me to learn.

Friday 19 June 2009 - Dropped into Ixworth Primary School to paint an outline on a wall for the kids to paint in later.

Bought paint from Bury St. Edmund's B&Q for up coming activity with King Edward's students at Cornhill Walk next week. I've wrote to B&Q some weeks ago regarding the frequent purchase and use of B&Q Funky Colour paints I use with school activities. So far no action from B&Q.

Monday 22 June 2009 - First day at Cornhill Walk. All set up and started sketching out 'Roy Keane'. I have The Vision of Paine in Bury....

Tuesday 23 June 2009 - Prepared boards for painting with 6th Form students from King Edward Upper School this coming Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday 24 June 2009 - Prepared boards for tomorrow and continued with Roy....

Sunday 28 June 2009 - Thursday and Friday 6th form students from King Edward VI School came to Cornhill Walk to paint the shop front boards under my supervision. I did not have to do too much as the students applied themselves and easily produced an attractive artwork within the allotted time. The Bury Free Press, East Anglian Times and BBC Radio Suffolk came to report on the activity on Thursday afternoon. Additional students from King Edward's turned up to look around the exhibition as part of their class work studies.

The final result looks like this....

In the meantime, the Roy Keane portrait is coming along.

Monday 29 June 2009 - More students from King Edward VI School visited the exhibition. I continued with Roy Keane though quite a few people thought it looked like Mel Gibson. Bugger.

Wednesday 03 July 2009 - Completed 'Suffolk Crunch Keano Crunch'

Friday 03 July 2009 - This large moth was found at the back of the JJB Sports shop wall.

Sunday 05 July 2009 - I've completed a portrait of Cromwell who apparently was prone to consuming ergot. I did not know this before painting the image, but subsequently find it an interesting detail and include a couple of related links....

It's said that Oliver Cromwell's violent tendencies came from eating infected rye bread while he lived in the Fens....

Also, completed 'Sugar Town's Sugar Factory'....

Monday 06 April 2009 - My 3rd exhibition at Cornhill Walk. I'm calling this one 14:56 The Queen, Cathedral & Maundy Full Moon because The Queen is visiting Bury on 09 April when there will be a full moon at 2.56pm, 14:56hr. End of day's progress....

Tuesday 07 April 2009 - End of day's progress....

Wednesday 08 April 2009 - End of day progress....

Thursday 09 April 2009 - The Queen was in Bury St. Edmunds today. This was being painted up the road. End of day progress....

Tuesday 14 April 2009 - Just after 9am did a telephone interview with Mark Murphy on his BBC Radio Suffolk show about artists using empty shop premises during these 'credit crunch' times. I suggested the government could ease problems related to health and safety and insurance issues. I do not really see this becoming a feasible programme because retailers and agents will only open their properties if there is significant financial reward.

Wednesday 22 April 2009 - Went to The Shrubbery to listen through the live recording made at Cornhill Walk of 'My Name is Edmund'. Left instructions for a mix.
Met with Yasmin Jeffery, PR and Media Officer at St. Nicholas Hospice. I have offered to donate The Queen painting for auction to generate funds for their organisation.

Monday 09 February 2009 - The beginning of St. Edmund returns to Bury St. Edmunds: Ned returns with Ben.
Arrived at Cornhill Walk shortly before 7.30am. Spent much of the day setting up and organising the exhibition. Happy that reaction to Ben's wood sculpture was very positive today. I was informed this morning that the Mayor had confirmed for Sunday 15 Feb.'s song activity. By 3pm I was informed some one was deeply offended by my Rude Word Painting so had to remove it and then I was informed the Mayor had cancelled attending on Sunday.

Tuesday 10 February 2009 - Dog tired, but here is Ben Dolphin Bench and my John Constable behind...

Sunday 15 February 2009 - The official launch of the My Name is Edmund CD at Cornhill Walk. Deputy Mayor of Bury Margaret Charlesworth attended and a photographer from the Bury Free Press was present. Barry Jones arrived to play snare and bass while Richard Clark came from the Shrubbery recording studios to record the event. Students from St. Edmund' s Primary School sat on Dolphin Bench next to Witold to lead the chorus backing...

Monday 16 February 2009 - Good photo and article in the East Anglian Daily Times about yesterday's activity....

Completed "Young Nelson"...

18 February 2009 - Completed 'Frank at 92' who I met on a shoot at Elveden Estate. It isn't every day one gets to meet a man 92 years of age. Here he is wearing a cap....

Friday 20 February 2009 - Completed Thomas Paine Study 01. This was just for fun; a study before up-coming Diss and Thetford gigs.

Nilay sent photos from Istanbul showing representatives of The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts standing in front of my paintings at The Marmara Business Centre. They never call me!

A shot of the posters on sale at Cornhill Walk....

The final weekend I began Nelson's lover Emma, but she'll have to wait until later to be finished off....

The view looking out from my desk....

Ben comes in on the last Sunday....

John Humphreys on BBC Radio 4 didn't know the difference between insolvency and bankrupt - there is no difference John; they are the same conclusion! Following 'alternative' information, I was expecting another major bank to go under. However, 'alternative' information also led me to believe oil could reach $200/barrel by the end of 2008, yet today it has lowered to $99

Tuesday 16 September 2008 - Philippa Taylor from BBC Suffolk Radio called by to test there is an audible signal at Cornhill Walk. She's planning to interview me Thursday morning. This is Matthew Seddon below. He will be 15 tomorrow, the 17th and I said I'd blog his photo...There you go Mat!

Wednesday 17 September 2008 - My morning chocolate muffin and coffee from the Carver Cafe Restaurant next door...

This is Mrs. Rayner, 87, born in Julanda, India and visiting Cornhill Walk today...

I learned today that 'Martha' of Martha's Vineyard, USA fame, was the daughter of a local man and Martha is buried in Bury St. Edmunds. Sounds like a future exhibition; assuming the USA doesn't go completely bust in the next year or so. The Bury Free Press visited again to photograph 'St. Edmund' and latest painting with working title 'Bloomin' Bury'...

Thursday 18 September 2008 - 8.45am interview with Philippa Taylor of BBC Radio Suffolk at Cornhill Walk...

Making the most of the BBC logo...

A coffee was delivered to me immediately after the interview by The Suffolk Carver, so I've included them in my Bloomin' Bury painting, though you'd need to be closer than this...

What to say? I was reminded of this report today, please watch the interview with ex-BBC reporter Phil Hayton...

Friday 19 September 2008 - Jarman and Joshua from the USA. Joshua lived in Adana, Turkiye for a couple of years. We had an enjoyable meeting...

Are http://www.edgemediatv.com/ using the NPP image Albert Monroe? According to a visitor to Cornhill Walk today, they are. Please let me know Claire McGauley!
Great news - John and Pamela Bateman agreed to purchase 'St. Edmund' and 'Bloomin' Bury? Yeah!' and want the paintings to be available for public view where ever possible. They heard the interview with Philippa on BBC Radio Suffolk Thursday morning. Here's the scene above my head for the last couple of weeks...

Saturday 20 September 2008 - Will from The Suffolk Carver next door dropped by. Will brought a coffee to me the morning of the BBC interview and is ex-Thurston School...

Today, I noticed a girl pointing out 'Allah' in the painting 'Your Way Up'. She's probably Muslim. It's called 'Your Way Up' because to those who do not understand Islamic Arabic scripture, the painting can be viewed any which way up. It's interesting how often people notice details I spent little or no time thinking about. Producing a painting is often an experience of spontaneous flow for me. I was looking forward to a rest after this 14 consecutive day gig, as the umpteenth 'SpongeBob' comment breaks out. Endless children, even in push trolleys, have gone by saying 'SpongeBob!' One moment I'm tiring and even bored, over analysing myself sitting in a shopping centre. Then, a moment of energy breaks out as some one takes an interest and an involved conversation evolves. Despite the enveloping fatigue, it has been a successful venture. I love the 'St. Edmund' painting, yet it is the the 'Bloomin' Bury' painting that has attracted a great deal of interest.

Claire from Edge Media TV has contacted me. They are indeed using Albert Monroe, the painting you can see here on the left...

Unfortunately, it doesn't really show the way the image can 'change'. I'll write to her. Never the less, here's the promo link she sent me...

Met Mr. Mike Ames who invites me to display both the new paintings at Cornhill Walk next Sunday for the Bury In Bloom annual awards ceremony. Will be my pleasure!

From September 10, 2008 C-SPAN TV, US Representative Ron Paul held a news conference supporting third party presidential candidates and urged support for independent candidates rather than the Republican or Democratic nominees. Friday 26 September 2008 - In BSE, went to Sprint Print where it will take several days to produce reproductions; I'm used to next day and even same day service in Istanbul. Met Mike Ames. Good chat. Before heading home I grabbed a sandwich from Marks & Spencer; bloody awful. Improved recipe? Are you kidding? I couldn't eat it.

Saturday 27 September 2008 - On a day of laptop Windows virus problems and Arsenal inexplicably losing 1-2 home to Hull City, Luke sends through a message that http://nedpamphilon.blogspot.com/ is back under NPP regime control! Wonderful news Luke. Thank you. Hopefully, the finalised installation of Ubuntu will restore the Windows problem. R-love-ution rules!
Allan brought round a copy of The Bury Citizen, a free newspaper, yet still a significant circulation and there we were bottom front page...

Sunday 28 September 2008 - Attended the annual awards ceremony for Bury In Bloom at Cornhill Walk. Ben drove the paintings in his van...

We had a pint in the Dog & Partridge before the ceremony. I wanted to take Ben to The Nutshell, but it was unexpectedly closed due to unforeseen circumstances. At the ceremony 'Blooming Bury? Yeah!' and 'St. Edmund' took pride of place either side of the stage...

Here's looking forward to the next gig at St. Mary's Church, NPP at Redgrave
